Neil Tierney got a new set of boules which he will return to PetanqueAmerica unless someone would like to purchase them from him. Here's his announcement.
"I have a set of La Franc competition boules brand new unused. La Franc. 72mm. 700gr. Stainless steel with a carrying case and a little pig.
Would anyone want them for $140 which is what I paid."
Contact Mike or Neil if interested.
Hi NW regional clubs.
A short update of what's currently in the works at FPUSA level
- The appointments of the vacant seats for regional counselors (NW, NE) were approved. Neil Bastian (NW) and Youseff Haas (NE) have been appointed. So, our NW region is now represented by 2 counselors. Neils email is firstname.lastname@example.org. Please feel free to reach out to both of us if you need any help!
- Upcoming will be votes for the several committees — Sport, Communication, and Disciplinary.
- The Sports Committee will have updates coming to the tournament schedule (I don't know what the updates are)
- Songmi will bring up a budget proposal for the Junior’ Qualifiers. (Junior’s Championship will be in Canada 2025.)
- Janice will present the budget estimate for 2024. She has been working very hard lately dealing with IRS issues on behalf of clubs. (I have reached out to FPUSA and asked to share last years treasurers report back to the clubs as well)
- Heidi Davidson and Ernesto are looking into Mailchimp and other alternatives for improved newsletters and more frequent communication to members.
- Ernesto will have surgery scheduled for Feb 8. So expect a bit of silence during the days before and after.
I will keep you posted as new information becomes available!
NW Regional Counselor 2023
Portland Petanque Club
We issue special invitations to enjoy petanque in one of most Cajun places on earth on Friday, March 1 to Sunday March 3.
Lafayette Louisiana is in the very heart of Cajun Country.
We never know exactly who will attend our tournament, but in the past we have had locals as well as players from Thibodaux, Louisiana; Austin, Texas; Northwest Coast of USA; France, Belgium, Africa, and Asia.
Doubles Tournament ($20) have teams composed of any gender with minors younger than ages 7-15 accompanied by a responsible adult.
On Friday Afternoon, we have Opening Ceremonies with local dignitaries; after which we play some petanque with old friends and newcomers.
On Saturday morning, preliminary morning rounds of 50 minutes are played "au sauvage" like those played traditionally in south of France in rural areas before about the 1950‚ after which the sport was professionalized. We play within tree roots, on the grass, cinder walking trails, other obstructions, and surfaces. There are no boundaries to the preliminary rounds so no disqualification if a cochonnet or boule bumps against an object.
At Saturday Noon, a Cajun chicken and sausage jambalaya cooked on site and served to players as part of the ticket price.
On Saturday Afternoon, the semi-finals and final elimination rounds are played on formal courts as found in the south of France with the formal rules used by Federation Petanque USA.
Only the teams with the 4 highest scores will advance for final play in brackets.
Trophies: The top six teams receive an oak plank laser burned with Cajun themed images as well as a selection of gifts.
Most Distant Traveler: The team or person traveling the longest distance from Lafayette, Louisiana will receive a gift basket of Cajun theme items.
On Saturday night, a party ($15) with a meal and appetizers is provided at private residence with a full petanque court.
On Sunday Afternoon, we have friendly games with a pot luck lunch (requested, but not required).
Come pass a good time,
Mike LeBlanc, Captain
La Boule Cadienne de Lafayette
