Why is this a great game?
• First and foremost, it is a friendly game which can be as competitive
or non-competitive as each individual wants.
• Secondly, anyone can play--young, older, boys, girls, or physically
limited-- and succeed quickly, yet there is unlimited potential for
improvement for those who want a challenge.
• We have equipment you can use and will teach you how to play for
free. If you like it and want your own equipment, it can cost as little
as $20. We would love to see you. Come watch a game and try your hand.
Fun: Many people enjoy playing a game and trying to get better.
Exercise: It provides exercise. It involves walking, bending, and throwing. We often play for 4 or more hours.
Social Component: It has a social component like other bowling games (bocce, lawn bowl, ten pin bowling). There is a sense of camaraderie.
Competitive Sport: There is also a competitive aspect. Those who are interested can participate in tournaments here, in Portland (3 clubs), and throughout the nation. Our club holds the Eugene Open every summer that attracts teams from all over Oregon and Washington.
Diversity: The game does not depend on strength. Our youngest member is 14 and the oldest is 82. There are rules to accommodate wheelchairs.
